Why is it still cold?

It's nearly June.  And when I opened the door this morning, it was 40 degrees outside.  We're not walking to church today.

Yesterday we visited the farmers market.  I was a little disappointed that there wasn't any fresh produce yet.  I suppose the weather might have something to do with that.

There were a lot of blanket-wrapped vendors hawking homemade wares and baked goods.  We saw magnetic bracelets, tamales, empanadas, blankets, tie-dyed onesies, jewelry, cupcakes, delicious-smelling fresh bread, and even Usborne books.

I love Usborne books.  However, I'm not really sure I want to host a party, but the slightly pushy lady somehow got my my name and number from me when I was trying to walk away.  She's good at not hearing the word "no".  I'm thinking of not answering when she calls this week.  Or maybe I'll block her number.  Will it tell her that I've blocked her?  I don't want to hurt her feelings.  But I also don't want to answer the phone.  Why didn't I give her a fake number?

It was cold so we didn't stay too long.  After scoping out all of the booths, I bought this for fifty cents; and Tesla enjoyed the playground swings for a while before we headed back home.

On a completely unrelated note: yam chips!

Enjoy your Sunday.

Apologies for the lack of posting.

I've been tired.  Very very tired.  Which isn't really an excuse because blogging takes pretty much no energy, but all the same.

Silas is in Colorado, camping and relaxing after taking the MCAT yesterday.  Tesla and I are hanging out, running errands, reading, cleaning, and sleeping a lot.  I used to feel guilty for taking naps, but then I decided that no one is policing my time, and I'd better take advantage before the second baby arrives, since it will be harder to find time with two little punks underfoot.  (Lovable punks, though.)

I've been doing a lot of cooking, and getting back in touch with my inner chef.  I have a secret desire to attend school here and become a personal chef to someone wealthy enough (and generous enough) to let me and my family live in their guest house whilst I'm working for them and Silas is in school.

I'm hoping to take Tesla with me to go check out the local farmer's market tomorrow.  Fresh produce is enticing me.  I've never been much of a gardener (actually I hate gardening and yardwork with an undying passion and have never mowed a lawn in my life), but I'm starting to want to have my own garden of my favorite vegetables and herbs.  Also I want to live somewhere where we can have a mini orchard in the back yard.  Maybe I'll have enough kids that they can do all the caretaking while I reap the fruits (literally) of their labors.

Here are some pictures.  Most are from the trip to Georgia (which was a blast).
I was able to clip some of my bows into Tesla's almost nonexistent hair.  He wasn't too pleased.  (Neither was Silas.)

Tesla and Oggy
Not my favorite picture of myself, but check out Michael's abs!  :)  He's a great little brother.  We spent our time eating our weight in candy and cheesy popcorn, playing laser tag and Scrabble, and having a Chuck marathon.

Some kids at the beach thought I was 15.  That is Michael's age.  He is six years younger than I am.  I guess the maternity swimsuit and slightly protruding tummy didn't age me appropriately.  I can't count on Tesla to do the job, because when we're in public people seem to think he's my parents' child and my little brother.  Ah well.
A HUGE amount of gratitude goes to my wonderful family, for flying us out to see them and enjoy the warm weather.  Thank you for the amazing cookies, the shopping, the beach, the relaxation, and the very tasty sushi.  I loved seeing you guys.  And Tesla absolutely loves Nana, Oggy, and Michael.   :)

Recipes You Should Probably Try

these cookies

this chicken

this cake, which i used to make 3 times a week and finish off ALL BY MYSELF

this strange-sounding but healthy and delicious twist on burritos

and this.  when i first found the recipe i thought, "ew, mushy tomatoes, mushy bread...." but it's SO good.  i made it weekly when we were first married.  (the BYU Creamery has EXCELLENT french bread for $1.  it's perfect in this.)  by the way, maybe it's supposed to be a side dish but we always had it for dinner.  i really like it.  and tomatoes are finally coming into season!

Whenever people suggest recipes to me I'm all, "Cool, I'll try it!" but never do.  If you actually make one of these tell me if you liked it!  Obviously they're not my recipes or anything, so I can't take credit if they turn out well.  Also you can't blame me if it sucks.  :)

Cloth Diapers

I finally got some!  (yesterday)

I like them a lot so far.  This morning was the first time in a while that Tesla has not woken up soaked in his own pee.

(it's a birthmark, not a wound)

I was going to go into a lengthy discourse about the different types of cloth diapers, why I chose the ones I did, how they work, etc.....but I'll spare you, my dear readers.  (All three of you.)

Happy Mother's Day.  Maybe you'll spend it enjoying this winning snack combination.

Or maybe you'd rather stick your head in the toilet.

Succint.

I'm not feeling great today, so pictures and captions will have to suffice. Sorry. :)

Silas is quite the domestic goddess.

Here you see him ripping seams so he can put up the curtains.

He was not happy when I pointed out his domesticity.  Note the glare.

I made Tesla some baby food.

He enjoyed it.

We decided we didn't have enough room for an actual crib, so we sold it. Tesla now sleeps in a bin.

Just kidding.

This is what Tesla does

when I am doing this.
(I promise, the chicken is not as gross as it looks.  It's Crock Pot Santa Fe Shredded Chicken, and it's REALLY REALLY REALLY good.  And easy.  And I got it off of a Weight Watchers website.  So not too bad for you.  Mine ended up with a little extra water, but it was easily solved by serving with a slotted spoon.)

The end.

Happy
