why daddies are way more fun

so yesterday was silas' last final of summer term (now he has 2 weeks off!), so he was able to join us for preschool.  when he asked if i needed help with anything, i asked him if he could rig up a simple living room obstacle course after we finished our first activity (talking about animal sounds and gluing cotton balls on sheep).

he agreed, and so as soon as we finished, i called him in to help out.  unfortunately, i got sick all of a sudden and had to go rest on the bed.

(and let me just say here--when i said "obstacle course" i was thinking a few pillows, maybe crawling under the table, hopping up and down...you know.)

when i came out of the room (my random nausea--noi'mnotpregnantrightnow--was miraculously cured by a few minutes of lying on the bed and a couple nectarines), my jaw dropped.

he'd rigged up a kid's fantasy that began with crawling under the table (it had a sheet on it) and under the chair (a little tricky because of the way the chairs are designed), around a mattress standing on it's side, up 2 buckets onto a chair, and then the finale:  jumping from a plank laid across the two high chairs, (which were on top of the couch) onto a pile of about 14 pillows and 2 twin comforters.

well dang.

(the boys loved it, of course.  i didn't get any pictures but suffice it to say i've been totally upstaged.)

  3. Heather, you are so creative and you try things. That is the most important thing of all. Just keep on trying new things and cut yourself some slack.

I say the following with every bit of sincerity in my heart and mind and soul. I hate the cliché it has become that Mom's have the hardest jobs etc... blessings will follow etc...

But it is TRUE. There isn't a job on earth more important than the one that Mom's do in raising their children. PERIOD

If anyone out there wants to argue with me on the point I am ready. Nothing outside the home is done with any real lasting benefit. Short term gratification, pride, etc... yes but actual VALUE? NO, NO, NO, NO, NO.

If Congress and the President did nothing for a month, nothing would happen. In fact some might say that we would be better off if they all just took a sabbatical for about a year.

Contrast that to Moms. They have to be there everyday making the right things happen for their families. And if they didn't the world would go to hell in a hand basket pretty quickly.

Actually, the world is GTHIAHB and probably because women have been duped into believing they must lead "fulfilled" lives outside the home! Yes, DUPED. It is a lie. In your later years you can bask in the glow of your children and who they have become because of you. Husbands can bask in the glow of a job they used to do, yet no one cares and all the coworkers have moved on or retired themselves.

    Heavenly Interview:

Me: hhhhello? Savior: What have you done of lasting value? Me: Uhhhhh......20 mins later....uhhhhhh flew helicopters and defended my country. Savior: ???? next please.

Mom: Hello Savior: Same question? Mom: Well I raised three children to adulthood and they are each contributing members of society bringing up families of their own. Savior: Well done though good and faithful servant. Enter into the rest of your Lord.

Love you Heather and think you are a fabulous Mother in every way. Cut yourself some slack in all things and keep trying everyday.

    Dad
